Representative Experience

 

As a senior staff engineer at Cotton, Shires, and Associates, Inc. (CSA), Mr. Sneddon has taken part in a variety of geotechnical engineering activities including field investigations, monitoring, surveying, laboratory testing, slope stability analysis, preparation of design plans and construction inspection.  Mr. Sneddon is also a Nuclear Gauge Certified Operator in the State of California.  Prior to his employment at CSA, Mr. Sneddon developed his skills as an engineer while attending the University of California, Berkeley and California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.  During his studies, Mr. Sneddon received thorough training in soil mechanics, geotechnical earthquake engineering, foundations, slope stability analysis, earth retaining structures, and laboratory testing. 

 

Recently he has been involved in several geotechnical projects including: investigation, monitoring, analysis, preparation of plans and construction inspection of a large deep-seated landslide affecting multiple residences, several roads and a state highway in Santa Barbara County; slope stability analysis of a large landslide threatening several residences in the City of Livermore; analysis, design and preparation of plans for a retaining wall to stabilize driveway access for a condominium complex in Santa Cruz County; investigation and analysis of coastal bluff instability and subsequent construction inspection of bluff restoration with sculpted tied-back shotcrete wall in San Luis Obispo County; surface and sub-surface monitoring of several earth dams in San Mateo County; and survey monitoring of the Moss Beach Distillery Landslide near the City of Half Moon Bay.

 

Mr. Sneddon has analyzed geotechnical site conditions using computer programs that include: slope stability programs UTEXAS3, XSTABL, and SLOPE/W; seismic wave propagation programs FRISK, EQFAULT and SHAKE; Newmark-Type sliding block site-specific seismic displacement analysis; finite element analysis program PLAXIS; LPILE for analysis of piers and shear pins; PYWALL for retaining wall design; CRISP for rockfall analysis; EXCEL for compiling, analyzing and presenting data; Land Desktop for preparing survey maps of sites; and AutoCAD for analysis and preparation of figures and design plans.
